How to quickly learn to swim correctly.

As a former elite swimmer from a real swimming family , I have found here my 19 best pieces of advice for you to get started with lifeguard course swimming and learn to swim the right way - both as a sport, but not least as form of exercise.

Swimming can be quite difficult. Actually really hard for some. Especially when you haven't learned it at all yet.

But don't worry, you'll get to that now.

As I said, I have found my 19 best pieces of advice on how to learn to swim most easily and quickly - the right way. Hopefully, you can use just a few pieces of the advice, which should help you a little on the way to a better and more natural swimming (that's my goal anyway).

After swimming for +10 years, I should also have learned something useful that you can hopefully use.

Advice 1 to 5: General swimming advice

Advice 1 - Start slowly and only increase afterwards

Many new swimmers make the mistake of thinking they have to start by swimming 1000 meters.

Not only is it a really bad idea if you can't swim at all. It's also a bad idea if you haven't been swimming at all for several years.

Because even if swimming is supposed to be one of the least damaging sports, you risk some kind of injury when you start out so hard.

This is also why when I was an elite swimmer and we came back after a 6-week break, we didn't start swimming more than 1,500 meters either, even though we normally swim 6,000-7,000 meters per week. work out.

Advice 2: Find a swimming partner at the start

It may sound trite, but this is where many people already fall off again.

Because if you just go swimming by yourself, it quickly becomes a bit lonely and boring.

And that might sound strange when you actually just swim by yourself without being able to talk while swimming.

But when you come to the edge after a series during the break or something else, it's just really nice to be able to talk to someone there.

It is the same when you do strength training and the like. It just makes it a little easier to get going when you're not alone.

Advice 3: Join a swimming club near you.

And this is where you can really learn to swim properly.

Well, you can just go to the swimming pool and swim a bit by yourself with your swimming partner, but you just have a hard time teaching yourself the right technique.

And here the solution is simply to join a swimming club, where you and your swimming partner can learn the right swimming technique from the start.

In addition to giving you some good advice/tips/exercises below, you also just need someone who can continuously correct your swimming for the better.

Because something like this is hard to see when you yourself are swimming in the water.

Advice 4: Be safe in the water first

Are you also one of the many 100's of thousands who have difficulty with water in general?

Then at least you are not alone.

But it is one of the most important things to get a handle on as one of the first things.

Because otherwise you will never learn to swim properly.

A good three-step rocket to follow to get a handle on this rather large problem is:

  •  Find a place in the pool where you can bottom and then go in up to your knees
  •  Find an edge and hold on while the water comes up above your chest and nears your neck
  •  Have someone you are sure of around you and try to dive head under.

Advice 5: Start with simple breaststroke

When many people start swimming, they think they have to be the 100 meter champion in butterfly swimming.

They certainly shouldn't.

Instead, you should start with the easiest style of them all. Namely breaststroke.

Here, you can basically do nothing wrong, which can be a relief for many beginners.

In breaststroke, you basically can't avoid getting a little forward, and it's hard not to just stay above water.

Incidentally, it is also the form of swimming with lifeguard certificate USA that many naturally start practicing when they can't swim but still get in the water.

Basically, breaststroke is about making a big circle with the arms and almost a frog kick with the legs.
